The Insurance Council of Australia represents the interests of the Australian general insurance industry. Established on 1 July 1975, Insurance Council succeeded the Fire Accident and Marine Underwriters Association, which traced its origins back to 1867. Insurance Council was established to act as the peak body for general insurance companies in Australia licensed under the Insurance Act 1973.

The South African Insurance Association (SAIA) promotes the short-term insurance industry by creating a positive awareness and understanding of the industry. Promoting the industry’s image and reputation is one of the key roles played by SAIA. This role cannot be seen in isolation of SAIA’s other activities as they all affect this aspect of what we do. As part of the new SAIA strategy, the SAIA Image and Reputation Board Committee was formed in 2007. This Committee includes SAIA Board members, as well as high-level co-opted members from the industry.
